Our Journey Towards a Drug-Free Monson
In Monson, MA, a collective vision for a healthier, drug-free future for our youth has blossomed into a powerful movement. Born from the foundational efforts of the Monson Substance Use Community Partnership, in collaboration with Monson Public Schools, our mission:
To provide a coordinated community approach to educate, advocate, reduce and prevent substance use for all ages, including our youth, by raising awareness, providing resources and reducing the stigma associated with substance use disorder.
In August 2023, we were honored to receive the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant and this pivotal moment marked not just a win for Monson but a beacon of hope for families, educators, and community leaders dedicated to eradicating substance use among our young people. The Drug-Free Communities Support Program represents the pinnacle of national efforts to mobilize communities against the tide of substance use among youth. Established in 1997 through the Drug-Free Communities Act, this program is a testament to the power of collective action. The program understands the unique challenges each community faces in combating substance use and provides the scaffolding necessary to build a robust local response. The DFC program is rooted in a commitment to empowering communities to identify and tackle the unique drug problems of their locale. This initiative is not just about funding; it's about mobilizing community leaders, fostering an environment of collaboration, and changing the conditions that lead to substance use among our youth.
